San Jose City Council For a Better District 1

Meet Ramona

Ramona Arellano Snyder is a second-generation Mexican American who moved to West San Jose from Arizona when she was two. She attended Campbell Union School District Schools, San Jose City College and has a Bachelors in Theatre Arts and a Master’s in Special Education from San Jose State University. She has been married to her husband Michael for 20 years and has a daughter and two sons. She has lived in her current home for 20 years.

She has spent the majority of her working life as a flight attendant for American Airlines before changing professions to become a manager of a volunteer program at the SJC Airport. Her careers in customer service and hospitality have given her a skill set of being able to work with and manage people

As a resident of District 1 in San Jose she has actively been engaged with her community as Vice Chair of the D1 Leadership Group and the Chair of the D1 Decides Participatory Budgeting Committee. She was able to get grants for the schools to buy sports equipment and funding to the two libraries in the district.

In 2022 additional grants for exercise equipment at Gullo Park and a play structure at Gleason Park. Arts and Parks are also her passion. She sponsored two Art Boxes and helped orchestrate a mural on the Hamann Park Community Center building, and Fire Station 14.

She was part of the core team that helped build a KaBOOM playground at Pueblo Play Park on Payne Ave and in D6 she spearheaded a KaBOOM playground on 1.5 acres of land at Sherman Oaks Elementary School in the Campbell Union School District. A conversation with the superintendent gave her permission to build a public park on school property.

It sparked her to action and after a full year of coordination working with the school district, the San Jose Parks Foundation, San Jose Sharks Foundation, KaBOOM and a group of 200 community of volunteers it came to fruition. It is her proudest achievement to date.
